Recommended XenApp 6.5 Hotfixes prior to Hotfix Rollup Pack 7

All the individual Hotfixes prior to Hotfix Rollup Pack 07 have been replaced by it for XenApp so far. Hotfix Rollup Pack 07 introduces a number of new fixes and enhancements that have not been released previously for a number of issues listed below.

Issues:

  • The svchost.exe process for Terminal Services might close unexpectedly with an application Event ID 1000 and can cause the Remote Desktop and Receiver connections to the server to fail.

  • After installing Hotfix Rollup Pack 5, the XTE service fails and drops user sessions.

  • The ImaSrv.exe process might exit unexpectedly.

  • Servers might experience a fatal exception, displaying a blue screen, on vdtw30.dll.

  • Terminal Services can exit unexpectedly on RPM.dll.

  • A session can be terminated before the first application launches. The issue can occur when a one-minute time-out is exceeded, for example, when the profile share is located across a WAN link rather than on a local share

  • The CPU consumption of the winlogon.exe process can be higher than usual and cause new connection attempts to fail once a server hosts 70 connections or more. Eventually, servers can experience a fatal exception and need to be restarted.

  • Pass-through authentication fails in a pass-through client.

Iyengar, B.K.S. Retrieved 9 January 2013. Bks iyengar yoga pdf. New Delhi, India: Allied Publishers. Astadala Yogamala.

  • After shadowing a session, the win32k.sys and vdtw30.dll files can leave the session unresponsive on the server; the session cannot be reset.

Available Software Update: This Hotfix Rollup Pack replaces most individual hotfixes released for this version of XenApp so far, and introduces a number of new fixes and enhancements that have not been released previously.

Recommended XenApp 6.0 Hotfixes prior to Hotfix Rollup Pack 2

All the individual Hotfixes prior to Hotfix Rollup Pack 02 have been replaced by it for XenApp so far. Hotfix Rollup Pack 02 introduces a number of new fixes and enhancements that have not been released previously for a number of issues listed below.

Issues:

  • When a server running Access Fundamentals/XenApp 6 Fundamentals Edition is in a workgroup, the Citrix license cannot be retrieved and application launch fails, resulting in the following error message: 'License Acquisition failed..'

  • This fix addresses security vulnerability. For more information, see CTX123359 - Transport Layer Security Renegotiation Vulnerability.

  • This fix addresses session reliability issues that can occur when using multiple, disparate, client devices to reconnect to the same session.

  • This fix addresses security vulnerability. For more information, see CTX128169 - Vulnerabilities in XenApp and XenDesktop could result in arbitrary code execution.

  • Servers might experience a fatal exception, displaying a blue screen, with bugcheck code 0xf4 on IMAAdvanceSrv.exe.

  • Servers running XenApp 6 can become unresponsive when shutting down. The issue occurs when the picadm.sys driver encounters certain error conditions that prevent it from shutting down in an orderly fashion. Also, servers might experience a fatal exception, displaying a blue screen on picadm.sys with bugcheck code 0x22 (FILE_SYSTEM).

  • If a session is disconnected while it is still reading or writing a Client Drive Mapping (CDM) file, the resulting deadlock condition can prevent servers from accepting new session requests.

  • Servers might experience a fatal exception, displaying a blue screen, on picadm.sys. The issue occurs when the user removes a thumb drive from a client device while connected to a session. Dumps indicate that picadm.sys is referencing invalid, possibly disconnected volumes.

  • When the ReadOnlyMappedDrive registry key (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrent Control SetservicespicadmParameters) is set to 1, published applications can no longer access and browse mapped client drives.

  • With folder redirection enabled, servers can experience a fatal exception, displaying a blue screen, on picadm.sys. The issue can be observed when attempting to save a file that was introduced into the session on a USB device attached to and then removed from a thin client device.

  • Servers with Hotfix XA600W2K8R2X64018 installed can become unresponsive intermittently. The issue occurs when a scheduled reboot is triggered by a Citrix policy while there are active sessions on the server.

  • With Session Reliability enabled, ICA connection attempts fail if the ICA Listener is bound to a single NIC in a multi-homed environment.

  • The Citrix SSL Relay Configuration tool can fail to correctly create the outbound connection policies defined in its Connection tab. After applying this fix on affected deployments, the policies are modified to disallow all outgoing connections. As a result, SSL connections can stop working. In order to recreate the correct policies and allow SSL connections to work again, you must rerun the Citrix SSL Relay Configuration tool, verify the policies in its Connection tab and click Apply. The next time the server restarts, the correct policies are in place.

  • This fix addresses two installation issues:

    • Hotfixes fail to install on a XA6 server that has not yet had the XenApp Server Role configured.

    • Installing hotfixes or performing a repair on the base product for Citrix XenApp 6 for Windows Server 2008 R2 can inadvertently remove the Citrix Licensing component, if present, from the system. This fix prevents the Citrix Licensing component from being removed when installing subsequent hotfixes.

  • Servers might experience a fatal exception, displaying a blue screen while shadowing is started.

  • This fix addresses security vulnerability. For more information, see Knowledge Center article CTX129430 - Vulnerabilities in XenApp and XenDesktop could result in arbitrary code execution.

  • Certain applications fail to launch when Administrator Approval Mode is enabled in User Account Control.

  • This fix addresses the following issues for sessions launched as streamed to server or by a script: 1) The application name can be missing from the session information of the Delivery Services Console Session and not appear under the Applications folder of the Delivery Services Console. 2) Application limits might be ignored. 3) Attempts to reconnect to disconnected sessions might fail.

  • Certain applications can perform slowly when run in seamless mode

  • The CPU consumption of the winlogon.exe process can be higher than usual and it might cause new connection attempts to fail once a server hosts 70 connections or more. Eventually, servers can experience a fatal exception and need to be restarted.

  • Attempts to log on to a XenApp 6 server using Version 7 or earlier versions of the clients can cause svchost.exe to exit unexpectedly. As a result, further connection attempts to the server fail until it is restarted.

  • The CPU consumption of the CitrixCseEngine.exe process can spike unexpectedly and cause logon delays.

  • Attempts to launch a published application that resides on a mapped network drive rather than on a XenApp server failure

  • When connecting to a server running Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1, Terminal Services can exit unexpectedly. This causes users to experience a black screen when logging on and the logon process fails to complete.

  • A rare race condition that occurs when a shadowee disconnects at roughly the same time a shadower connects can cause servers to experience a fatal exception, displaying a blue screen on RPM.dll.

  • The fix addresses an issue where the IMA Service exits unexpectedly when a network adapter is not bound to an IP address.

  • Servers might become unresponsive or experience a fatal exception on rpm.dll when an administrator initiates a shadowing session.

  • Pass-through authentication fails after applying Hotfix XA600W2K8R2X64048.

  • This enhancement is a part of the XenApp Printing Optimization Pack. The Printing Optimization Pack improves the user experience and printing speed by reducing the printer bandwidth required. For more information, including system requirements, required components, and known issues, see XenApp Printing Optimization Pack in eDocs, the Citrix Product Documentation Library.

  • This enhancement allows printing within a session using ICA Proxy through Branch Repeater.

  • During times of heavy logon/logoff activity, sessions can become unresponsive while connecting. The 'Starting <application name>' message appears but the connection attempt fails to complete.

Available Software Update: This Hotfix Rollup Pack replaces most individual hotfixes released for this version of XenApp so far, and introduces a number of new fixes and enhancements that have not been released previously.

Additional documentation of interest:

Replaced Hotfixes

For a list of hotfixes that this hotfix rollup pack replaces, see Knowledge Center article CTX212819.

Invalidated Hotfixes

Installing this hotfix rollup pack partially invalidates several hotfixes. This happens because not all fixes in those hotfixes are included in the hotfix rollup pack. Obtain or request the corresponding replacement hotfixes for any invalidated fixes you require. For a list of hotfixes that this hotfix rollup pack invalidates, see Knowledge Center article CTX212819.

Important Notes

  • Caution: Several items in this hotfix rollup pack require you to edit the registry. Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Citrix cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

  • Skype might not recognize the camera, in which case the video portion of the Skype call is missing. To avoid this, make sure the camera is connected before launching Skype. If necessary, sign out of Skype and then sign back into Skype. In some cases, it might be necessary to disconnect and reconnect the camera before signing back into Skype.

Known Installation/Uninstallation Issues

  • For information about the order of deployment to servers in a farm and other helpful best practices guidelines, see Knowledge Center article CTX120842 (Best Practices for Citrix XenApp Hotfix Rollup Pack Installation and Deployment).

  • This hotfix rollup pack replaces Hotfix XA650R06W2K8R2X64021, which was removed from distribution because it includes an incorrect binary version. Befor you install this hotfix rollup pack, Citrix recommends that you confirm whether Hotfix XA650R06W2K8R2X64021 is present on any system and then proceed as follows:
    - On systems where Hotfix XA650R06W2K8R2X64021 (but not VC++ 2012) is installed, Citrix recommends that you uninstall Hotfix XA650R05W2K8R2X64021 and then install this hotfix rollup pack.
    - On systems where Hotfix XA650R06W2K8R2X64021 and VC++ 2012 are installed, Citrix recommends that you uninstall XA650R06W2K8R2X64021 and VC++ 2012 in that order. Then install VC++ 2012 and this hotfix rollup pack.

  • Installing this hotfix rollup pack partially invalidates several hotfixes. This happens because not all fixes in these hotfixes are included in the hotfix rollup pack. Obtain or request the corresponding replacement hotfixes for any invalidated fixes you require. List of invalidated hotfixes

  • On some Citrix XenApp servers, silent installation of hotfix rollup packs can fail and installation with UI can display the following error message: 'Operation could not be completed (error 0x00000002).' If you are affected by this issue, see Knowledge Center article CTX133014 for more information.

  • After uninstalling this hotfix rollup pack from servers with the Universal Print Server Client installed, you must run a Repair on the Universal Print Server Client in order for the client to function properly. This is necessary because uninstalling this hotfix rollup pack causes the UPD driver binaries to be reverted to previous hotfix rollup pack level instead of the base installation level of the Universal Print Server Client.

New Fixes and Enhancements in This Hotfix Rollup Pack

This hotfix rollup pack introduces the following fixes that have not been previously released:

HDX MediaStream Windows Media RedirectionSession/Connection
PrintingShadowing
Seamless WindowsSystem Exceptions
Server/Farm AdministrationUser Interface

HDX MediaStream Windows Media Redirection

  1. When playing a video file in a session with Receiver for Windows version 13.3 or 13.4, synchronization occurs between the audio and video in a custom application. However, when upgrading to a newer version of Receiver, Windows Media Redirection fails. After this occurs, users can hear audio only or can see video only.

To enable this fix, you must use Citrix Receiver for Windows 4.3 or later.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3916]

Printing

  1. With legacy printer names enabled, autocreated printers might not be available for use in a published application when multiple sessions are established on a single server for the same user.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC4517]

Seamless Windows

  1. Seamless applications can become unresponsive and their icon in the Windows taskbar reverts to the generic Citrix Receiver icon.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3783]

Server/Farm Administration

  1. Spurious updates might be made to servers' local host cache after the Microsoft DsBind() API function fails. Symptoms of this issue include rapid increases to the size of the local host cache on controllers and changes to the contents of worker groups pointing to Active Directory OUs.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC2631]

  2. The 'dscheck /full workergroup' command might report errors incorrectly when verifying Workergroups that do not contain 'Farm Servers' objects, displaying the following message:

'Error:: Failed to retrieve Server UIDs for the WorkGroupUID ……'

    'No Server UID is present'

This fix modifies the message displayed in this circumstance to the following:

'This workergroup is not configured for Farm Server, verification OK'

'This workergroup is configured for Farm Server and has no Server UID, verification OK'

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3383]

  3. When an application is published to a Worker Group, running the command dscheck /full apps /servercheck mistakenly returns the Worker Group object as an unknown server, offering the option to delete it.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3556]

  4. Custom administrators receive an 'Access denied' error when running the get-xasession -localhostonly command.

Session/Connection

  1. If another process holds the same lock as picadm.sys, users cannot log off from the session and the session remains in a disconnected state.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC1243]

  2. Attempts to copy information fail in a published version of Microsoft Access 2007. The information does not appear in the Office clipboard.

  6. In sessions for which you enable Local App Access, the screensaver fails to get activated.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3182]

  7. By default, Windows Quick Access shortcuts for 'Desktop' and 'Downloads' are recreated in %userprofile%Links at logon even if you manually deleted them earlier. This behavior is not desirable in all scenarios. This fix introduces support for the following registry key that, when set to 0 (zero), prevents the automatic recreation of those two shortcuts:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlCitrixwfshell
    Name: CreateShortcutLinks
    Type: REG_DWORD
    Data: 0

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3274]

  8. This fix addresses the improper handling of command line parameters from within published desktops as in the following example:

If you run 'C:Program Files (x86)Citrixsystem32iexplore.exe' -noframemerging http://www.google.com, Internet Explorer misinterprets the parameter and resolves the URL as http://-noframemerging%20http//www.google.com.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3660]

  9. This fix addresses an issue that results in the occasional corruption of files that are being written to mapped client drives.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3684]

  10. With Excelhook enabled, if you have multiple Excel workbooks open and minimize them, you might not be able to bring any of the workbooks into focus.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3799]

  11. On systems with Fix #LC2702 (included in Hotfix Rollup Pack 6) applications can fail to save on client mapped drives and generate corrupt files instead.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC3976]

  12. COM port mapping can intermittently fail.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC4267]

  13. In sessions on systems with Fix #LC1155 installed, an image display area inside a custom application is not resized properly if you resize the window manually.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC4319]

  14. The icaendpoint.dll file can cause the Windows Audio Service to exit unexpectedly.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC4356]

  15. If another process holds the same lock as picadm.sys, users cannot log off from the session and the session remains in a disconnected state. Lenovo g40 sound driver windows 10.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC4415]

  16. On systems with Fix #LC0615 installed, session logoffs can take longer than expected.

    [From XA650W2K8R2X64R07][#LC4674]

Shadowing

  1. This enhancement removes the requirement from the Shadow Taskbar (cshadow.exe) to authenticate to a primary domain controller. With this fix, the taskbar queries regular domain controllers.

  1. The svchost.exe process for Terminal Services might close unexpectedly with an application Event ID 1000 and can cause the Remote Desktop and Receiver connections to the server to fail.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64001][#LC1419]

  2. When the 'Auto Client Reconnect' policy is enabled in a session, the authentication prompt might not appear if the following registry keys are configured:

    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeCitrixWFShell
      Name: SessionReconnectMinTimeInMilliSeconds
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Value: the maximum session length
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeCitrixWFShell
      Name: LockOnReconnect
      Type: REG_DWORD
      Value: 1

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64002][#LC1990]

  3. Attempts to connect to a disconnected session after placing fully loaded servers in an offline state by using the load evaluator might fail.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64003][#LC3226]

  4. On servers with Hotfix Rollup Pack 5 installed, Remote Desktop Services can exit unexpectedly on XenApp 6.5 servers that act as XML Brokers.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64006][#LC1800]

  8. EdgeSight initiates a large number of queries to the Zone Data Collector for a farm session, which causes the IMA service to stop responding and be ejected from the farm. When this occurs, the server uses high CPU and memory usage.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64007][#LC3649]

  9. When restarting the IMA SQL server while the IMA datastore is unavailable, ICA and RDP connections to the XenApp servers might fail.

To enable this fix, install both XenApp 6.5 Hotfix Rollup Pack 7 (or its replacement) and Group Policy Client Side Extension Hotfix GPCSExt170W2K8R2X64007 (or its replacement) for Fix #LC3477.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64008][#LC3477]

  10. When exiting a 64bit ThinAPP packaged application, the application can experience an unexpected exception on sfrhook64.dll.

To prevent this, create following server-side registry key to resolve the issue:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECitrixCtxHookAppInit_DllsSfrHook
    Name: SkipUnloadonProcessExit
    Type: DWORD
    Data: Any Value

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64009][#LC3484]

  11. When you attempt to access from the same device and while the session state is active - a published desktop after a client disconnect, the following error can appear:

'Connection Error: You already have an instance of this application open and are not allowed to run more than one instance. Please contact your System Administrator.'

This can occur when the 'Allow only one instance of application for each user' option is enabled in the Published Application Properties of the desktop.

To enable the fix, set the following registry key:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREWow6432NodeCitrixPolicies
    Name: AllowReconActiveDesktopOnSingleLimitMet
    Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 0x00000001 (set '1' to enable and '0' to disable)

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64010][#LC2614]

  12. Removing a smart card from the reader during session logon can prevent the session from properly terminating on the server. As a result, the server can exhibit a state where smart card logons for any future sessions are prevented.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64010][#LC3020]

  13. When reading a file from a mapped client drive, the old, cached file length might be returned if the file length was changed outside of the client session.

To enable the fix, set the following registry value to '0':

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetservicespicadmParameters
    Name: CacheTimeout
    Type: REG_DWORD
Value: Default value is 60 seconds. If CacheTimeOut is set to '0,' the file length is reloaded immediately and if not it is loaded after the defined timeout.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64010][#LC3167]

  14. When opening and saving changes to a file located on a mapped client drive using a published application, the modified time stamp does not update.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64010][#LC3412]

  15. When users copy the contents of an embedded Word file that is opened from within SAP, pasting the content into a new embedded Word file fails.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64011][#LC2092]

  16. After enabling the 'client clipboard redirection' policy, the wfshell.exe process might close unexpectedly.

  21. In Citrix Receiver for Android published desktop sessions, attempts to open a Microsoft Outlook calendar invitation can fail with the following error message:

    'Cannot open item'

The issue occurs with calendar invitation created by other users; invitations created by the same user are not affected.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64017][#LC2828]

  22. Attempts to append data to files on a mapped client drive might fail when the files are opened by users with write-only permissions. The issue occurs when running the PowerShell command 'get-process | out-file -filepath 'clientc$tempproclist.txt' -Append' for the second time.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64017][#LC3895]

  23. Printer redirection can intermittently fail.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64017][#LC4584]

  24. Account SIDs for published applications use disparate prefixes depending on whether you add users/groups from the Citrix User Selector or the operating system's User Selector and PowerShell. As a result, duplicate instances of users and groups can be present in AppCenter. This fix prevents any discrepancies in the SID prefix for newly added users or groups.

    [From XA650R06W2K8R2X64018][#LC0847]

  25. Using published instances of Microsoft Internet Explorer, attempts to download a file from a website and saving it to a mapped client drive ('Save as..') can fail.
